Kona Dance and Performing Arts, a new nonprofit arts organization in Kealakekua, held its grand opening Saturday.

More than 250 keiki and adults attended. The event started with a blessing ceremony by Mahina Saunders and an introduction of the eight board of directors members and seven teachers were present.

Seven free dance classes were offered over the course of the three-hour event, and the dance floor was filled with dancers of all levels from ages 2 to 70. Dance performances were also offered. Giveaways were donated by local businesses.

The studio opened registration for its 2016-17 season. To secure a spot in one of their tap, jazz, ballet, musical theatre, contemporary, hip hop, yoga, or breakdance classes for keiki, register at konadanceandperformingarts.org or call 657-4473.
